has anyone gone from the stock tires to something a little bit bigger without changing rims?

 

omg.. thanks you.. I have asked that in 2 different post.. and no one had givin me a direct answer.. I too have the stock base wheeels on my gt.. I want fater tires 235 sux.. whats the max I can have in the front and max on the back... ??? I have been waiting 4 days for the answer.. this sheet happens any longer and I'm goin got have to call the dealer

 

245s are a non issue with stock wheels. 285s are do-able with 9s. There are several threads here discussing it

 

Went to a tire guy yesterday. He checked it out and said I could go to 255-40X17

 

I though the stocks were 8s? I heard people doing 255s.. but I dont know if I can got bigger on the back?

 

i would guess that front and back would be the same. sounds like 255 is as wide as you should go for both.

 

I'm running 255x45x17 with the stock rim and it was definitely an improvement over the original 235x55x17 tires. Someone had slashed the sidewall of one of my original tires, so I used it as an excuse to go a little wider.

 

Still no direct answer on this.... The Stock GT 17's whats the widest tire you can do.

 

My neighbor down the street put those on and they looked bad a@@. It really completed the look. I was pissed. He pulled in my drive next to mine and made mine look like Pinto tires. Also he said it handled much better.

If you want an answer to whats the widest then look on www.tirerack.com and it gives the rim size for every given tire. It also shows revolutions per mile which will tell you if your speed o meter will be off.

 

well 255 is ok for fronts.. but I plan to get an sc and 255 is not going to cut a 400+ hp car =-/.... sheeeeeeeet.. I dont want to spend another 2K for rims and tires..
