Default RE: tires

I will be getting my new '05 Mustang GT in a couple weeks or so, and I will be making some significant power upgrades (i.e., Vortech supercharger + headers/exhaust). I'm pretty sure the stock tire/wheel combo won't work real well for the 450hp I expect to see. So, I want to upgrade the tire/wheel package to get as much rubber under the back end as I can.

Unless I am mistaken, the factory setup is 17 x 8, with Pirelli P235/55ZR17 tires. I want to go to a 18" Bullit-style wheel (or maybe a retro Cragar S/S look)... yea, I love the nostalgic 5-spoke chrome wheel look. I'm not interested in big wheels and the low profile look, so 18" is as big as I want to go. I'm more intersted in the taller sidewalls... more of a drag racer look than a road racer look. My goal is to get at least a 28" overall tire diameter, and as wide as will fit.

But I can't find out how wide I can go in the rear. Has anyone swapped out the rears yet? If so, what did you put on?
Will an 18x9 wheel, with P275/45 or P285/45 tires fit? What about P275/50 or P285/50? Or will I run into clearance problems?

I would appreciate hearing about anyone's experience... good or bad.

I believe the biggest opstacle in your way is the rear shocks. I know one magazine cover went to coil over shocks to the inside of the frame to get 10 in slicks under the car. Not sure if they were required though. Pauls High Performance did the work on the car. I believe the magazine was Hot Rod.
