I have a 05 it started to make noise around a thousand miles. It was driving me crazy, I brought to the dealer and they wanted to replace the throw out bearing and a bunch of other crap. Finally figure it out myself. It's that stupuid boot it's too tight and causes a rattle in the dash somewhere. When you slip the boot off it stop's making that noise. I have a bunch of other dash rattle's that I absoulutely hate. My biggest complaint about the car is the rattle's. And by the way I have had my car almost three years and this newby crap is a joke.........

I had the same issue. Its just the material got stiff. It hapened to me when I used leather cleaner on it. I used the mguiars wipes. Worst product ever, its great for a show pice but it makes the interior look wet and the seats feel slipery and the dash blinds you in bright sunlight from the reflection. I actualy just cleaned it off with water on a lint free towel and worked the boot a bit. The noise is gone.
Wow. Same exact experience. I bought my 06 used and I didn't have that issue. I used mguiars wipes on it and ever since then the material makes noise while I'm driving. Only way to stop it is to put my hand down there and keep it from rubbing. Glad to see I can probably just clean it off with water and a towel. I like the wipes on my seats but I haven't put it on the dash or anywhere else (other than shifter boot). Guess I'll have to keep it to the seats and thats it then.

Its not the leather boot that squeeks.
Its the cabin sealing rubber boot below it.
Pull your shifter boot and trim off and see
all that rubbed off rubber stuff under there?
Thats coming from the rubber cabin sealing
boot. Lube it with some pure silicone (NOT WD40)
and the squeeking will be gone.

It's definitely the boot in my case. All I have to do is grab it with my fingers and it stops the rubbing and hence the noise.

My mustang was fine until I added the PRO 5.0 shifter. It then would give a rattling humm betweem 3,000 to 4,000 RPMs. I fixed this issue during my Alpine install by adding dynamat extreme on top and underneath the surrounding shifter and E-brake areas. It WORKED!

Ohh, I forgot. Make sure the rubber boot is wrapped securely around the shifter assembly. Otherwise, your gonna hear undercarriage noise!
