One other minor point is that I believe you can only reprogram an SCT2 five times and then it will not support another VIN. Ask your buddy how many cars he has programmed ao you can determine how many programs are left. BTW mine supports three tunes and I have used on an Explorer, Escape and 500. My mustang uses the Diablo unit that comes with Whipple

I'm surprised nobody has recommended that you call whomever the vendor is that you intend to buy the tunes from and ask THEM. They're the real experts. I'd explain to them exactly what you've described here and let them tell you the if's, and's and but's...
