I have the opportunity to purchase a used SCT Xcal 2 SF from a buddy of mine. He had used it on his Ford Lightning but has returned the truck to stock so the Xcal is unlocked. I can pick it up for $100 and I can buy 3 tunes from Bamachips for $115 so it seems like a great deal.

I know Live Load 3 wil allow me to load custom tunes with an Xcal 2 SF. Is there anything else I need to worry about? Can I just buy his used Xcal, loadtunes from Bamachips and be good to go?Or are there other considerations?

be carefull about buying a used tuner. I hope you know what you are doing.

I've worked with the guy for 12 years - he's not going to rip me off. I just want to know if there is anything else I need to do. From all my research on the SCT site Forums it looks like there is nothing else to do as long as the tuner Status = Stock. It does. I guess I can just use Live Load to unlock it, load new tunes and go. I just want to make sure...

I was sitting here for 20 minutes ....trying to make this post sound politically correct......i'm sure your buddy wouldn't try to screw you. (I went through several drafts)......caution was all I was suggesting.

Some of the Xcal2's, the older ones, will not support 3 tunes.. just be wary of this.

Mine holds 2, and the other one is just saved on my computer in case I ever need it.

Ditto that. No big deal but mine will only hold two tunes as well. I got the sct2 and a c&l intake for $100 so I couldn't pass that up. With the tunes in it I have about $225 in it.

I wouldn't worry about it. I would just go with VMP instead of Bama, but that's just me.

As long as it's unlocked and you know it will work with your car you'll be fine. I bought my tuner used and I haven't had any problems with it.
