I did my 01 and 07 without a compressor. You unbolt the spring from the top and when you drop assembly just make sure you have a buddy to catch the top portion so the bearings dont go everywhere... There's a how to video somewhere out there, let me see if I can dig it up.

If your car is on a lift of jack stands you can compress the spring with a floor jack, remove the nut, and then lower the jack slowly as the spring decompresses.

^ Smart. Used that method with upper & lower control arm set-ups. Never occurred to me for struts....

I dont recommend it but what I did was backed the nut off to about half of the threads, taped the trigger down on my air gun with the socket on the nut, laid the fixture out in the grass and plugged the air hose in from about 15 ft away.
You guys are nuts! I surely wouldn't trust a C-clamp to hold the pressure of the springs.

I did not use a spring compressor. I used a floor jack under the control arm and removed the large nut that holds the strut in. If you have a spring compressor you can remove the spring and strut as a complete assembly and disassemble it off the car.
