Default Summer Tires

Staggered wheel/tire package I am looking at includes the Toyo TR1 on front 8.5 rim (255/45/18) and back 9.5 (285/40/18).

The price is very right on this package.
Is the Toyo a decent tire?

I don't have any personal experience with that particular tire but the nov 07 consumer reports has a big section on tire ratings. It puts the toyo proxes T1R about in the middle of the list of 21 tires. Ratings were as follows:
dry braking=very good
dry handling=good
wet braking= excellent
wet handling=good
hydroplaning=very good
noise=very good
ride comfort=very good
rolling resistance=good
treadlife=poor
If you compare those ratings to the other tires further up on the list they end up looking so-so. Not horrible, but not the best. The Goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 was a cr quick pick (but may not be available in the sizes you are looking for). The popular bfg kdw2 was #3 and would have been a quick pick if it wasn't for the poor noise rating. I've been trying to come a decision on tires as well and so have succeeded in doing nothing but make my brain hurt. And I thought wheel selection was torture!!!

Talked to the local Town Fair Tire store and their salesman was recommending the Toyo summer. Looks good:

I can get the tires and wheels separately, but was hoping to press the easy button. [&:]

I've done searches on these forums about the tires and didn't see any complaints, except that they wear out kind of fast.

Did Town Fair Tire quote you any prices?
I'm looking for the same exact tires/sizes...

So far I'm probably going to go with
www.tiredeals4less.com
The 285/40s are $210, and the 255/45s are $178

$210.00 is the best price I've seen for the Toyo 285/40/18.
My shipping estimate on that site was $25, but don't know if that is total or each.

Performanceplustire.com has the Toyo for $246 each free shipping.

My rims are only at one location, and I'd like to take advantage of their free mounting, blancing and shipping.

Can't tell you how many wheel and tire bookmarks I've got going right now. [8D]
