Default cutting antenna, quick question

Well, I pulled my stock antenna off and am about ready to cut. I was going to go straight for the 8" legnth, but decided that if I didnt like it, I'd be hosed. Instead, I decided to cut at 14" first and then put it on to see how the reception is and how I like the look. THEN, if I wanted it lower, I'd pull off again and cut a second time.

My questioin is.....I know its not anything "official", but where did anyone who cut theirs measure initially from? The absolute bottom of the antenna or just from where it sits on the fender after its screwed in? Prolly wouldnt make even a 1/2" difference, but I'm curious.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Can you post pictures of it when you're done? I'm a loser and ended up buying one from American Muscle.

Yeah, sure.

But don't feel bad. I was within a click or so of doing the same before I saw someone post something about cutting it verses ordering one. We've all been guilty of pissing away money here and there on stuff that ended up not being necessary, so dont feel too bad over it. $20 is a cheap mistake.

I took a dremel and shaved the top of my antenna then used a tiny plug and glued it on.

Sure, it is....not life threatening in any way, but I was just curious how "others" did it.

And yea sevenleaf, I plan on doing that too.

Here is the nub I used I could not find them this small anywhere. Lucky for me someone in my mustang club had 2 extra so I gabbed them. I tried everywhere.

FWIW I measured the visible part, I.E., without the threads.

I think it is....how about you put a piece of tape (while the antenna is on your car) at 8inches from the bottom of the antenna and at 14inches..see which one you like better...14inches should be flush with your roof line. You should cut it to where you like it not to how every mod website sells them.

That's where I'd measure from. And it's not going to make any difference if it's off by 1/2" or an inch or whatever.

I think you'll be glad you went with 14". It puts the tip just at or below the roof line.
