Somebody post the new GTO picture please? But one thing that is for sure the Mustang is a better car inside and out regardless of the corvette engine it is competing against. Besides you are not going to drive the car over the speed limit too many times before a state patrol pulls you over. I know I was pulled over the other day doing a 100 mph while passing a car.

You guys are silly to compare a GTO to a new Mustang GT, they just aren't even close in the performance department. Now, take a 2004 Cobra, and you have a nice looking ride and something that competes bone stock at the track with the GTO. There's no way in hell I'd be driving a Pontiac over my Cobra. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it is pointless to compare a 5.7 L engine to a 4.6L one, minus a supercharger. They just aren't even close. But hey, if you want performance and to drive around in the ugliest car on the PLANET, then go buy a GTO. But, if you'd like to cruise around in a nice looking ride, albeit a second slower in the quarter, go buy an '05 GT. In my opinion, nothing looks better on the road then the '05 Vert (as a convertible).

JD,

The subject of this particular forum is the 2005 Mustang. There are OTHER forums here for more general interest car talk. There is nothing worse than a high milage member complaining about a noob who is in the WRONG forum. I'm all for general car talk but do it on the right channel, this isn't it.

Scottsat,

Actually the GTO is based on the old Caddilac Catera chassis (in it's day pretty good actually), NOT the Cavalier.

The new '05 GTO is a MUCH better car than the '04 GTO was, better brakes, dual exaust and 50HP make it faster. The typical Pontiac body kit boy racer hood scoops and plastic weight penalties they have added thsi year I really don't think improve the car. The '05 GTO is a very high content car and you PAY for the extra content very dearly. When the '05 GTO is compared to the '05 Mustang GT the '05 GTO will beat the '05 GT without too much trouble. Dollar for dollar the '05 GT is a better car overall with a synergy of design and components that the GTO just can't match. If you take the $6,000 dollar difference and added it even at retail to the '05 GT you would have a much faster car than the GTO but the '05 GT would still lack in the interior materials and finish.

As a car guy all I can say regarding the new GTO is THANK GOD it's not based on the F-body! We drove these as 3 different WS6 Trans-Am's for the last 3 years of production and they were TERRIBLE cars with poor handling, worse ride, bad chassis flex, body and interior parts that start falling off as soon as the car is built and engines that were unreliable with inconsistent build quality. I can honestly say that I have never had so many bad NEW cars as the F-body WS6 TA's.

The new GTO is a very high content car at a slightly high price but after our experience with the WS6 TA's I would b very reluctant to pay money for a GM car. The GTO is not a "muscle car" like the old F-body TA's and Cameros, it's something altogether better and much more sophisticated in both design AND execution. More of an old man's car that has legs.

Funny! The title of this thread is "Followed a GTO yesterday in..."

I guess I'm not seeing where he went wrong.
