2008 Shelby GT500 Ordered: Having second thoughts?? should I do it
Ok: here is the deal and I truly need advice etc. I have a few questions. I originally bought a 2007 gt500 with my dad (well my dad bought it, before anyone thinks I am a spoiled teen...nope...allot older than that) anyhow...we were originally going into this together...as he helped me build my tribute (Not $$ wise) just inspiration to his 1968 gt350...ok already long story short...my dad enjoys the 07 gt500 we bought and he has basically bought me out by just taking over the payments...we got a good deal only 3k over msrp back in the winter....however... I was willing to part without issue...enter present day...I bump into a good freind of mine and we talk about what ifs..I jokingly mention to him...you sell me an 08 gt500 at $500 below msrp and I will buy one from him....he asks me color...options etc...10 mintues later he gets me to meet him and advises me that my car is enroute...3-4 weeks 2008 gt500 vista blue etc etc...that would mean selling my tribute car because there is no way I can afford both...but to get a car the color I want...with the options i want for 500 below MSRP...when they are still selling them from 5K+ plus over MSRP in this area...should I do it....I know it will mean higher payments....is the insurance jump from a gt to a gt500 huge....all advice welcomed....man...this would be a deal....ANYONE : SHOULD I TAKE THE PLUNGE and get it for that deal?

Go for the GT500. I wish I could have but when I was looking they were still going for a bunch over sticker. They still are. However I have seen some deals on Ebay moters, problem is buying a car from a far away place could be problematic for service and such.

tough call....i will eventually have 3 ponies in the stable but at this point 1 if more than enough. if financially the extra cost doesnt put you in a bind, go for it and then take it to jason for CAI/tune and pulley sway for some big HP upgrades at little cost

Depends on what you can sell yours for...if you are gonna take it in the shorts maybe hold off. Don't get me wrong the GT500 is def. a geat buy for 500.00 under MSRP but see if you can get it for invoice then there will be no questions

You guys are only talking performance wise... What about insuranse? Will it jump really high compared to a GT?
No one mentioned the extra weight the GT500 carries...
To the op..
I've been in the same situation as you, and read many many articles, most of them mentioned how the GT500 was not as enjoyable as a GT for daily driving, simply because of the extra weight in the front, and the weight ratio, 53/47 I believe. It's often described as 'Porky'...
I've seen videos on youtube of stock GT500's pulling low 13's!!
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3XHwp98IFM
I'm still contemplating the idea of getting one... This thread should definitely help.. I'll keep watching it...
Good luck with whatever you decide to go with... I can't give you an opinion simply because i'm in the same situtation as you...
