Car on during brake bleed right?

Well, im going to buy a manual power bleeder, it seems the 'safest' method, even if it might get tiring from pumping.
I used speedbleeders but the earl's I got were longer than stock, due to the valve. So I had to guess on how hard/far to screw them in, and I crushed 1. I got the part number from a post on this site so at least I knew it worked for someone. Not me. Argh.
Thanks guys
