2008 Mustang Build Stopped / Over?

2008 Mustang Build Stopped / Over?
I was looking for a mustang at my local Ford dealership today and was told by a salesman that Ford had stopped 2008 production. Can anyone verify that this is true? He told me this using it as an excuse for not wanting to negotiate on the price.

I ordered a 2006 in March of '06 and the order was kicked back because they stopped making them shortly thereafter. So it sounds like his excuse might be legitimate since its the middle of April (same timeframe).

If I was to guess based on no statistical knowledge I'd say he is probably bull****ting you just to get a higher price. Just call him out on it and don't give in...have to fight right back

I just have a hard time believing that all 2008 mustangs have been built and they have all been distributed to the dealerships by April. Wouldn't Ford have built enough 2008's to distribute for the next few months while they start building 09's?

They had enough orders on a waiting list to keep them busy finishing up with the '06 models while preparing to begin the '07 models. That is why my order placed at the end of March of '06 was kicked back in April of '06. They were accepting no more '06 orders at that time. This could very well be the same case now with the '08 models.

I thought they had been building the current year's cars until sometime in August.
I imagine Ford will force everyone to take a long vacation this summer...
April seems a bit early for a cut off on orders.
He probably just wants you to buy the dealer ordered junk on their lot.

I think Orion and BlackGT are right. Change over is sometime in August. I day care a couple of kids who's parents work there. I live right across the freeway from the plant.
I will ask tonight.

My local dealer told me that the order cutoff for '08's was end of April, then orders for '09's would begin in August. This sounds right to me.
Every program is different with regards to the date of the yearly changeover. Even on the same program (vehicle), it can vary from year to year.

It's not unusual for orders being finished at this time of the year. Ford puts the screws to its dealers for allocation in the spring for summer delivery. They make the dealer look in the crystal ball and determine what willand what won't sell, in terms of options, colors, etc. That's why if they guess wrong, the dealer might have 10 of one package/color and nothing of others. I know because I did that for a number of years when I managed a Lincoln-Mercury store. It's tough to guess what you need 3 months down the road.
This way the buyers at Ford can place orders with vendors/suppliersto get the right combinations of colors, radios, autodim mirrors, etc. in the pipeline so they don't end up with too much "something" and not enough of something else.
