No disrespect, but reliable sources have a habit of being less than reliable.

This is what everyone else said. But, I think it to be true. Why would ford do that? That would mean the end of the mustang. 40+ years of a legacy, they will do anything to keep it alive.

be patient.

They don't need a smaller engine to get better MPG, look at the Corvette. It has a big V8 in it and gets close to 30mpg. All Ford needs to do is put these bloated pigs on a diet. Had mine parked next to a mid 60's Stang last week and it looked like a mammoth compared to the old one. These "Pony" cars have turned into a friggin' Clydesdale.

The Ecoboost TTV6 is a low-boost direct injection engine designed for economy. Its going to be offered in all the Ford Lines both FWD and RWD (excepting the Focus) including the F150. In the F150 its going to be 270 bhp. It makes its debut in the Lincoln MKS in 340 bhp trim in 2009 followed by 270 bhp F150 trim in 2010. Exactly which version the Mustang gets is still not known. Its possible the 270 bhp version may be part of the 2010 Pony Pkg. I still think its to expensive for the base engine.

The GT is getting a short-stroke 5.0L version of the 5.8L/6.2L "Boss" OHC engine that debuts in the 2009 High-Output HarleyF150. The Harley will likely be powered by the 6.2L with the DOHC heads from the Mustang. Ford had decided to go with the 5.8L instead of making a special 5.0L for the Mustang and Midsize SUV's to cut cost but the new CAFE standards put the 5.0L version back into the product mix.

I think the 400 bhp rating is wishful thinking. But I hope its right.....

One thing we know for sure it wont keep the 4.6/5.4 Modular as that engine dies with the dropping of it from the truck line and the discontinued full-size Panther Chassis.

But most people wouldn't. Ford has tried to drop the V8 from the line-up twice. Both times it came right back. They know it won't work. The V6TT that has been rumored, if becomes available, will be supplemental, as stated above. It will be an option. And probably a great one. But to me, it's not a Mustang without a V8.
That's because they never had a high power alternative. Come out with a 400+ HP, 400+ torque V6 and I give a crap how many cylinders it has. Oil hit $113 today... and it is going to get worse. We will have $4/gal gas in the next twelve months. That will kill the V8.

I read that the twin-turbo V6 will have direct injection and produce over 300 hp. The article stated that direct injection was "key" to improved performance and fuel economy for a smaller engine.

If that is the case, why don't they use direct injection in the 4.6L V8 and have a 350 hp Mustang that gets 20 city and 30+ highway?
TT V6 will have HP in the high 300's or even 400. Hell, Cadillac gets 300 HP from a V6 with direct injection and NO power adder.

400HP and 360 torque? That sounds like a sucky engine. I'd rather have 400 TQ and 360 HP.

In fact, if you think about TQ and HP crossing at 5252 RPM on the dyno chart, this is one crappy looking TQ curve. At 5252 RPM, engine should be doing 360 or so HP. Don't know how they cross at 360 if max TQ was 360. Max TQ should have been 400 and then dropping down to meet HP curve at 5252.... having made max torque at 4000 or so RPM. This numbers look way fishy.

No it won't. This is a niche market. Not everyone drives a Mustang GT. Enthusiasts are willing to pay for what they enjoy. Look at how many boaters there are. Most all of my friends own boats. Those things get nothing for gas mileage. But none of them are planning on selling. When you work hard all week, you want to enjoy the fruit of your labor. If that means paying $10 more per fill-up, I/we will do it.

Again, I have no problem with a V6 option. But I have a huge problem with deleting the V8 all together, as do many enthusiasts. I just don't see it happening.

Here is what you are forgetting. 5.0 4 Valve Engine. N/A with a 6Sp Transmission, the same as the Cobra. What is sucky about it? It will run 12's stock. With a power adder, right away you will be pushing close to 500WHP. and 450+ WTQ. That is an awesome Engine.
