Finally getting tint
I almost got my windows tinted about a year ago, but pulled out because the guy seemed like a flake, and ultimately spent the money on some other mod.
Well, this Friday I am finally going to go ahead and get the tint.
I'm going 35% up front, and limo dark in the back, and rear quarter windows.
I'm also thinking that I'm going to take of my louvers.
Tint on the front windows is illegal here in California, but I'm hoping that with the fairly light 35%, contrasting against the extremely dark quarters, that I'll be able to escape notice.
I asked about scratching, as I've read numerous reports on the problem, and talked about felt and moleskins.
He said he's done hundreds of Mustangs with no problems, even mentioning the window drop/raise when you open the door.
This is the guy who did my hood stripes too, so I don't discard his opinion so easily.
What I'll do is ask about a guarantee against scratching when I go in.
And of course, you know I'll post pics as soon as possible.
I am a ***** after all.

The tint will make a world of difference...Just hope you are happy with the different shade front and back. I almost did that, being in Ca. as well, but I ended up with 15% all around. No problems yet, knock on wood.....

i cannot tell you how many people have said this "my tint guys said he has done hundreds of mustangs and no scratching..."
only to come back... "well it scratched.."
honestly get the f*king moleskin... its not that expensive...
and the reason why this guy is saying this... is because either
A) he has done mostly/all older mustangs
B) None of the people that get scratches come back to him
C) A combination of the above.
EDIT:
oh yeah, dont do a different up front and back... and dont do limo back there. Do all 15/20 and you will be happy. Limo is TOO DARK imo.

I can't do 15/20 in the front.
Technically, I can't do any percentage, but 35% will be less noticable.
And while I've heard many stories about scratching, I've also heard others about having tint for 3 years with no issues, on an '05.
But of course it's the horror stories that have me concerned.
I've also seen the write up for the moleskin install, so it's something I can think about during the week I won't be touching my windows.

the way i look at installing mole skin, is that you cant go wrong...
whats the out of pocket cost? Another 30 bucks? to keep your fresh tint in good condition, that's worth it to me..
Let us know how it goes!

there we go
EDIT:
oh yeah, I reccomend installing the moleskin before the tint, that way even the up/down movement of the window on open/close of door will affect it...
and my installer told me i could roll my windows down that night if i wanted because of how hot it was, but I decided I would wait 3 days just to be safe anyway, if im going through all this trouble no point in ruining it...
SO, what i did was disconnect both window switches so that neither I nor the passenger could accidently put the window down.
This is very easy to do. Just put your finger into the well infront of the window switch and pull towards you, you wont break anything.
Once out, just unplug the wire that goes to the switch socket, tuck into door, and replace panel. Repeat for passenger side, and you're done!
This will take about 1 minute total and will completely guarentee that you dont put your window down... again... worth it to me.

Definitely get the moleskin. Pick it up from here and you're only out $6 and a little time to install them.

Don't let anyone talk you out of the 35% if you really just aren't looking to get hassled. I went with 35% because it is legal where I am and I'm happy with it. Just know that it won't be really dark, people will still see you. I was just looking to get the "darkened" look and 35% does it.
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go darker, but to me it just wasn't worth it. Especially in a black car with a black interior.

if you have a 05-07 stang I would order new window seals for the inside of the door as they started using felt again in 08
order 08 felt seals and u cant go wrong tint will last forevah!
