Default Trunk Emblem Removal

I'm going to take the trunk emblem (Faux gas cap?) off and replace it with one of those SHR
pieces. I've read that taking the emblem off is a matter of a little WD40, heat and fishing line
and there are 2 posts. It also looks like there is some sort of sleeve around the keyhole, is that
part of the emblem? Is there any reason to take the lock out from the back of the trunk?

Anyone installed one of these SHR emblems, any trick to that, I can find install instructions online.

Thanks,

I just replaced mine last weekend with the Black billited one. No need to r/r trunk lock. I used the old mono fishing line trick, always works.Pain in the *** because Ford used a whole circular piece of double sided tape to stick it to the back of the deck and you pretty much have to saw all the way through it.Then you need to r/r the residue from the old tape. Stick the new one on align the locator pins then drill the hole in the center, use the ss screw and all done. You schould have gtten instructions with the new cover from SHR.

That little sleeve is actually part of the mechanism inside the trunk. It's not connected to the emblem. I made a cover to go over mine so I had to take it out and shave it down, but I would imagine your SHR emblem will cover it and you won't need to.

The installation instructions appear to have the lock completely removed. None of the pictures I've seen show
that little black sleeve that appears to surround the keyhole. That's a part of the lock? Thanks.

Yes if we are thinking of the same thing, it's part of the lock. If I remember right it just twists out. You can shave it down with a dremel tool if you have to. It's not all that difficult.

trimmer line and pull out as you work it, a little silicon on the 2 holes the SHR emblem has 2 little zigamagic to line up

at least mine had them, don't worry about the black O ring on the lock that stays put

easy babyyy

good luck
