MP3 Cable Routing
Stupid question but... How did you route your MP3 cable from inside the console to where you have your MP3 when using it? I tried just running it out the top but the cover of the console seems to pinch it when closed, not sure if it will destroy the cable over time. I'd like to avoid drilling holes or notches in the consol.
I assume you have an 07 or later model Mustang with the aux jack in the center arm rest console, correct? I have an 06 that I installed a PIE Auxiliary input converter in, but I routed the wire through the center console, so with respect to the wire positioning our setups are similar.
You can always keep your mp3 player in the console, but that would be inconvenient since you would have to get it out of the console whenever you wanted to change songs. I keep my mp3 player in one of the cupholders, and the console does pinch the wire when closed. I have had it like this for 3 months now and the wire is still functional. The bottom line here is that these wires are cheap for a reason: they don't last too long in the first place. So, whether or not you pinch the wire with the console is not too important. For your peace of mind though, carry an extra aux wire in the car just in case.

I don't have a picture, but what I did was remove the little access panel inside the console (cut a little notch in the panel) and then pulled the shifter boot off, drilled a little hole just big enough for the connector to pass thru in the forward cup holder down low almost at the bottom. I then snaked the cord thru the access panel in the console(where you plug it in and then replace the access panel), around the front of the cupholder (you gain access by pulling the shifter boot off) and then just leave about a five or six inch tail curled up inside the forward cup holder. I just plug my Ipod in and it sits perfectly between the square parts in the front and rear of the rear cup holder. Make sense?
I saw in the Mercury land yacht SUV that they had notches in the edge of the lid of the console for the cable! Take a look and then just fabricate something in the plastic.
I just put my player on shuffle to go through my songs and while it sometimes need to be skipped to the next song (it was playing too much Aerosmith this last trip!) I get by with it resting in the cupholder.

Man, I wish my '05 had that snazzy feature. Does anybody know if the stock shaker unit has an RCA hookup in the back? My DD does, so I got an RCA/headphone jack cable to hook up to my mp3. Works great, cd quality sound with no static. Would be nice to have this kind of set up in the 'stang.

I've got one of the PIE aux boxes. It works pretty good. I like it. Due to a boneheaded installation mistake, I thought I got a bad box at first. So I bought a new one. I installed it the same way and it didnt work either. I got fed up and got it looked at by a stero shop. They got it working in 15 minutes. I didn't do a good enough job on the wire connections, the box wasnt getting power. So I've got an extra one I'd let go pretty cheap...
I went and got real cheap and got the $25 FM transmitter.[

It gets interference from my cell phone and needs no commercial channels broadcasting next to whatever frequency you use. If you find 95.5 is clear, than 95.3 and 95.7 have also got to be free.
That's why I only use it when I'm out of the city.
For city driving it's totally worthless, but it's not bad for the open road. Considering the other prices of hookups.
