brakes
This guy has NO IDEA what he is talking about. Brakes are completly unessesary on the Mustang and are the part that needs the LEAST improvment. Dampers on the other hangdare the worst part of the car, they are set up for an old lady. Good dampers litelrally increase your cornering abbility 50% when set up right. Brakes increase your braking ability by 3% if done right.

Yeah I got the actual numbers, brakes will increase the car's braking abbility by, from the numbers 1.28%. dampers will increase the car's cornering ability by about 44.5%.

How much are you willing to spend? Dampers cost $550. Also autocross isn't the right word for it... in most of the world this means Rally Racing.

You probably need a helmet as well. You can find them for around 60 shipped online.

Personally, I think the first and biggest improvement to the car for AutoX would be tires. Depending on if you care what class you end up in, wider will help (but may bump your class). At the least, something good and sticky will make a huge improvement. I would expect a helmet to be required, and I'd get a decent pair of shoes (for you, in addition to the new "shoes" for the car). From what I've read/seen, strut bar not really necessary at the level we're talking about - I'd look to suspension mods next if that's the direction you're headed.

Here is a little help on what stock class is.
Stock –
This category includes mass-produced, common vehicles that may be
“daily drivers” (cars used for normal, everyday driving). Stock Category cars
compete in their “factory” configuration with a minimal number of allowances (not
requirements) such as:
Removal of spare tire and tools
Front anti-roll bar(s)
Suspension/wheel alignment using standard adjustments
High-performance DOT tires (including competition R-compounds)
Shock absorbers/struts (2 external adjustments maximum)
Competition-type seat belts (no shoulder belts in open cars)
Brake linings (pads/shoes)
Air filter element (the “throw-away” part)
“Cat”-back exhaust systems
Wheels of standard size (diameter, width, and offset within ¼”)
Roll bar/cage
Gauges, indicator lights, etc.
Please refer to the SCCA® National Solo® Rules for more details and specifics.
