Default Dash Pad/Removal

The VIN on the dash was taped over at the dealer, probably for theft deterrence in a high crime area.

I live about 100 miles from the dealer and dont really want to go back, so I would rather just remove the dash/pad cover and remove the tape.

Does anybody know how to remove the cover, or have a link to a repair procedure for this.

Also thinking of getting this manual on CD's to help out in this kind of thing and other repairs in the future. Is this manual any good ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...ayphotohosting

this might be the procedure, not
100% sure....it looks like the image
points to the dash, but they call it
the instrument panel?

Thanks, I think this is it. Looks like it would be easier to remove the windshield.

Took a closer look this morning, it was a piece of paper slid down in there above the VIN. It was real hard to get out with a bent piece of wire.

Not sure if the dealer put it there to hide the VIN or if it just randomly slid in there. I do know the dealer had the car parked out in front in a not so great area as far as crime goes. I have heard ofthieves getting keys made at a locksmith or another dealer by giving them the VIN and no other ID.

Anyway my problem is solved. I think I will get that manual.

Thanks

Probably got in there by mistake.
The VIN is on the window sticker on new stangs defeating
the paper over the VIN # so they cant read the VIN idea.
The dealer can cut all the keys they like off of a VIN # but
the PATS system wont let it start the vehicle. The key must
also be programmed into the PCM for it to be valid enough
to actually start the vehicle. Stealerships are not suppost to
cut keys from VIN data unless proof of ownership can be produced.
Probably got in there by mistake.

The printed manual is much better reading than the DVD manual.
Also some of the DVD manuals require you to set the clock on
your computer to an earlier date so you will be able to read them.
This can be a big inconvience and cause trouble with the windows OS.
Bootleg copies I would call them.
