Hood Prop
I entered my Mustang in a car show last weekend. Wind was blowing lightly with a few strong gust. One actually lifted the hood off the prop. The prop dropped over to the right front fender side and the hood started to drop. Luckily I was standing next to the right front fender and was able to catch the hood before it fell on the prop and caused any damage. One other participant at the show actually had his fall. Anybody else had a similar situation? Seems like there would be something you could do with the prop to prevent this other than converting over to struts. Never the less beware of this if the wind is blowing. I guess the aluminum hoods on our cars are too light to bear up to any gust of wind that others with steel hoods can hold up to.
The only way to prevent this is with struts...Although they are not cheap, they are easy to install, get rid of the bar, and make a much better showing in a car show than the hood prop rod.
I use MRT (about $120) and they were one of the first mods I made to the car. You pull the prop rod off completely.

Take the hood off for windy shows?
Or close it and put a huge lifesize pic
of the engine compartment on the now
closed hood?
The rod could be wedged into the prop
rod hole by a clothespin to prevent it
from slipping out of the prop rod hole
from up and down movement of the hood.

For those of you with struts, how well does your hood close? I'd like to get them,
but my hood requires a pretty good slam (actually I just drop it) to get latched. With
the struts, a good drop seems out of the question.
Did you have to make adjustments?
