It's called Corrosion.
Aluminum isdefinitly prone to it.
In fact, salt water does a nasty number on Aluminum.

In our case with our cars/trucks, it's a bad prep from Ford. Or a contaminant in the etching primer, rather.

This same issue occurred with my Stang, the dealer replaced the entire hood and repainted it to better than OEM specifications. Good Luck!

I'm confused, I thought the hood was aluminum. Aluminum doesn't rust!

Also, someone said something about a recall, recalls are for NTSB saftey issues, not stuff like paint and rust.TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) as one poster said, it's for known problems and what the fix is, not a guarantee that Ford will fix it for free, unless it occurs under warranty.

I agee that regardless, the dealer should fix it,due tobad factory prep before the car was painted (I'm thinking oil, or some kind of solvent on the hood).

One final thing, the 6/60 rust warranty only applies if the metal is rusted through, it doesn't cover surface rust, "been there experienced that" LOL.
It's true that almost every recall is for saftey issues, there have been recalls for non saftey problems. The 99 Cobra is an example. The Feds ordered it recalled by court order because it did not meet the advertized H P output. Owners filed a lawsuit and won.Ford had to rework the intake, and exhaust so that it would make the320 hp itclaimed to have. That was for all owners of that year. Even so this hood corrosion problem will never make that kind of status.

Does anyone have a picture of what this hood corrosion looks like? Or a link to a picture. I tried to google it and use the MF search function but haven't found anything.

Go to these threads for pictures:

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...-bubbling.html

It can vary from just a few bubbles under the hood lip to severe bubbling on the outside of the hood.
