Changing Tunes
First from the stickie that i mentioned above:
And this is what Doug told me when i email him last week:
So from that i say if you are an auto you have to have a new tune written, the shifting is based on MPH which will be different than that with stock setup. As stating the manuals can get away with it without problems
Mod: Gears
Tune: Always, especially important on Automatics
Why: On a Manual trans, recalibrating the computer for gears is mostly for two reasons; your speedometer and odometer. There are a few other things that come into play, but they are pretty minor and really would not effect drivability. On an Automatic trans however, it’s a completely different game. Road speed plays an important factor in the auto trans deciding when to shift and how to shift. Without updating the auto trans for the new gears, your car will shift funny and sometimes even not shift at all in extreme cases.
Popular Brands: FRPP and Motive.

on a manual you can do it with the tuner and you'll be fine in most cases. There is a value in the Drive By Wire tables that can to be adjusted but this isn't really required but just a nice thing to do. I'll do it if at the time the customer places their order they have gears but if they are changed at a later date then they can just change the setting in the tuner.
On the auto's I have to change the shifting points in the files because they are set at part throttle by MPH and this is why I have to do this. Most tuners don't do this but since I remap the entire shifting range I do.
