Default Changing Tunes

Hey y'all,

Right now, I currently have an XCal2 with Brenspeed's 87, 91, and 93 tunes on them. When I got the tune, I got the C&L CAI from them, but that's my only performance modification so far.

I've since bought 3.73 FRPP gears and will be installing them sometime in the near future. I've been getting conflicting reports on what I'll have to do to get the tune in line.

From reading around threads using search, some people have been saying that all I'll have to do is adjust the parameters within the XCal2 for the tunes I have and I'll be good to go. Others seem to be saying that that won't unlock the full performance out of these gears and that I should go and get new tunes from Brenspeed.

Which route should I go to achieve maximum performance?

I know it requires a retune. I was just wondering about ppl's opinions about just altering the tune that I have or getting an entirely new one.

Speaking of tunes does the ethanol in premium gasoline have any impact on cars using tunes for those octane grades?

If the gears came from Brenspeed they upgrade your tune for free...either way they won't have to write a complete new tune just change the gear parameters so if they charge you it shouldn't be much to email it to you.

My tunes didn't come from Brenspeed, they came from Bama. However, I was in the same situation as you....I had my tunes based on my stock gears. I spoke with Doug regarding my tunes and he said I could try out the tunes (as they were) with the new gears and see how I liked it...or he would just "rewrite" my tunes to account for the new 3.73 gears....

I opted to just have them updated for the new gears.

I hope this helps ! s ~

You don't change your tune per say.....you just select your new gear ratio from the menu on the Tuner itself.

Apart from altering the speedometer calibration I wouldn't think there's much to be gained by messing with a motor tune following gear swaps.

As for the eternal "which is the best tune" question, let's just say that there's an optimum setup for these motors and nothing beyond. Push the mixture and spark to the edge and you'll get all she's gonna give, whatever your company name might be

Most peoples opinion on tunes is far too subjective (theirs is always the best) soI would say stick to a big name, pay your money and live the dream...
