just be glad its the windshield,your insurance will usually cover it.the new windshield wont have a mirror and you can put it on.

i used to have a VW jetta,it had a spoiler on the upper part of the rear window,i bought a new one to replace the old one,so in my attempt to pull the old one off i shattered the whole thing,lol,i was pretty pissed!

Ouch, that sucks!! Those mirrors are nice, once you've had them then you are spoiled and it's hard to go back. Although I have sadly got used to not having heated seats and the fancy autodimming mirror, oh and sunroof my previous car had.

Still couldn't love my Mustang more though.

I'm paying for the windshield myself. I don't believe in having my insurance companypay for my stupid mistake. The new factory windshield comes with the button premounted. I'll just need to pop on the new mirror.

I finally got the button out of the mirror. Here is a picture of the mirror mount.



The spring clip at the bottom of the picture is what holds the mirror to the button. It took a pair of needlenose pliers on the clip while prying the other end with a screwdiver to get the button out. That clip is the strongest piece of spring steel I've ever run across. There is no freakin' way the flimsy mirror removal tool I bought had a chance of moving it. I was using a mirror and thought I had the spring clip compressed but the windshield just gave way in a sickening crack.
