Maybe this will help..

The hardest part will be programming the transponder..

as long as you have two keys now you can program additional keys easy. If you only have one, do as i do, i had the key cut, then bought it to my ford dealer and told them it lost its program or was never program from the factory and they did it free.

Fantastic idea. What they charge to program a key is a rip-off.

But yeah, if you have two keys already, you can program it yourself. The instructions are in your manual. Very simple. And getting the eBay key is much cheaper than going through the dealer.

I bought one of those off ebay for a spare in case I lose one of my two original keys. Like they said you need two to program a new one. It tells you how in the owners manual. Buy one before you lose one or the dealer will charge around $150... or even more, I can't remember exactly.

LIke $89. THat's how much it cost for mine. I lost my spare, so I HAD to bring it back to them.

If you still have two, I'd highly recommend the aftermarket route. For what they did, $89 is ridiculous.

what about if we still have our origional two, and buy that new key with the fob on it the actual key instead of using a seperate fob (which is the same fob that was on my dad's 98 explorer??!? welcome to 2008 Ford!?)

would we still be able to program it our selves?

Yes, if you have a '07+, the Fusion key will work just fine and you can program it yourself. You'll need to follow the instructions in your owner's manual. There is one procedure to program the actual key, and one to program the remote.
