When I got mine there was no drilling for the middel piece. It went right in and stayed put.

My two concerns with only tape is

1. People putting pressure on it. Yes it has happened. They were screamed at. It's ridiculous but people do lean up against the car sometimes and have no idea what they are doing.

2.Tape is tape. I know what 3m dual sided tape is and have used it before. It works great. Tape can someitmes not cure right, be mixed improperly from the factory or who knows what. Tape will probably work in most applications here. The things about drilling is everyone freaks out. Good god it's a hole in the car that will be covered! Even if your off slightly, or way off, it will still be covered. No one but you will know but you.

Hom long will your car be around 5-10-15 years? Do it right the first time.

3M tape is plenty strong when installed properly.
If it's too much of a challenge for some of you, then go see a pro and have him doing it.
An honest shop won't charge you much for this.
