Default Anyone using Amsoil oil and/or filter?

All,

I am almost ready for my 1,000 oil change and here are my options:

1- Stay with SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil and FL-820S oil filter every 2,500-3,000 miles

OR

2- Switch to Amsoil SAE 5W-20 XL Synthetic Motor Oil with Amsoil Oil Filter EAO11 every 5,000 miles.

I read somewhere that it is not good to switch to Full Synthetic @ 1,000. Engine should get synthetic more around more than 10K miles? Anyone can clarify this if it is true.

I have a concern with option #2 since this is not the oil recommended by Ford. If the engine has an issue in before 3y/36K Miles, what tells me that Ford will not blame it on the oil?

If you reply to give you opinion, it is fine. However, is there an official paper or statment that will protect me if this is happening if i decide to go with #2?

Thanks folks.

I have seen many people switch to a full synthetic oil at their first oil change with no problems. I would use ford spec oil for the break in period and then switch over.

I use Amsoil in my 4.0 in every part of my car; engine, trans, diff. And I use a wicks filter to clean it. I drove 3,000mi with this combo and the oil is still very clean and has good viscosity. One mechanic even told me that I can use amsoil for 10,000mi and just change to a new wicks filter after 5,000mi. But I think im just going to change both after 5,000. Well see!

As for ford screwing you for using a different oil, im not sure what to tell you. Most full synthetic oils out do OEM spec by far...

I began using Amsoil 0W20 (specified for the 4.6L by Amsoil) with an Amsoil filter after 3,000 miles. Although I could go 15,000 miles between changes, I'm doing mine at 10,000. I may switch to Mobil1 and the Motorcraft filter. If I do, it'll be oil/filter changes at 10,000 miles with filter changes at 5,000. And if I was using a blend, it would be filter/oil at 5,000.

I've heard someone say that it's best to stick with the blend during engine break-in. I don't buy it.

I have used Amsoil 0W20, 0W30, and 5W30 in mine (with their filter). Cant tell a bit of difference between any of them. Im sure if I were stock, then it might be possible to notice. But the extra noise of the exhaust and S/C overpower anything the engine itself makes. I will probably settle on using 0W30 due to the S/C.

I have been using Mobil 1 for years. I recently changed to Amsoil 0W20. I am going to change it @ 10,000 miles along with an Amsoil filter. Amsoil says it can go 25,000 but I figure 10,000 is enough.

I've been running Amsoil 5w20 for almost two years and I love it. I've actually got to change it this week. I've been running it with either a Moblie1 filter, Napa Pure Gold, or Amsoil filter. I change every 7,500 to 8,000 per my dealer. The bottle actually says that as well I believe. I changed it at 1,000 and haven't looked back since then. It is nice to have the confidence in your oil to stand up to any harsh driving.

Guys running 0W20... what advantages does this weight have over the 5W20? Looks like milage is a little longer...anything else?

Is the Amsoil better than the Mobil 1.

In my opinion, yes.
Amsoil is having testing done covering most of its products compared to others. They have not published any results with 0W20, 0W30,5W30 yet. In the testing done thus far, they have pretty much stomped all others.
As a company, they have the mindset of being absolutely the best. And will do what it takes todevelop a superior product.

Willyou notice any difference from one oil to another in your car? Most people couldnt. Even more wouldnt care.
But, the differences in my Caravan vs every other Caravan that comes into my shop for work leads me the think otherwise. I DO feel a difference.
