$800 gear install?

RE: $800 gear install?
Yeah, dealership in Austin said the same type of thing. They actually quoted me $1300 WITH parts before I mentioned that I already had the parts. I was like "yeah, right."
Dealership in Houston tried to convince me that Ford Racing didn't make 3.73 gears. I was like "uh...then what's this thing on my order screen right here." at which point the guy was like "they must be fake." End conversation there.
Stealerships are crazy. Go to a local performance shop. The good ones I think will charge around $300-$350, while some of the more inexperienced ones will charge less, more like $100-$150. Up to you.

RE: $800 gear install?
Guy at the dealership in Whiteville, NC told me the same thing about the FRPP 3.73's, how they must have been fake. I asked him if he was high, he just kind of looked at me, and I just walked out and haven't been back. No joke, the guy quoted me $730 for the gears and install prior to me informing him that I'd be buying the gears elsewhere and just using them for the install. $400 for the install??!! $330 for the gears??!! HA!! I honestly think he was just not wanting to do it, or testing the waters of how much I actually knew about the prices. He was VERY serious about thinking FRPP didn't make the 3.73's though, lol...
Fortunately, I now "have a guy" that is down with doing whatever I need, for a reasonable price and he doesn't mind if I hang out to help as long as I bring beer.

When we asked the dealership how much they would charge to put in some 3.73's for me they said 8 hours labor at $100/hr. I'm just wondering if this is normal or they gave me an inflated time/rate because they dont like doing it?
I asked my local shop that I like what they would charge and they said they dont do that stuff. They will do a LT headers install for $400 though (figuring on 5 hours labor). He mentioned its been a couple years since the last time they did LT headers and I can't remember what car he said they did it to but it made me laugh (old boat of a car that stock, was never anywhere near slightly quick)... anyway.. let me know what you guys think on those prices or any recommendations on where to go.
Thanks!

RE: $800 gear install?
Park Cities Ford in Dallas quoted me $900!!!!! They also wanted $600 for 3.73 gears!!!!! I won't get into how bad their service department and body shop sucks...but I won't ever take any vehicle there...ever. My car could break down in front of their dealership and I would have it towed somewhere else.
