Paint Damage Question
This is going to sound ridiculous but its the only thing i can figure. About two weeks ago, i was restationed from Norfolk, VA to Groton, CT (yeah, Im a submarine guy). I got to Groton during a lot of heavy rains in the NE area. On the first day I was driving into work, I noticed 3 or 4 small "globules" of some sort of jelly-like substance on the hood. I figured it was come kind of bird crap or something (was late for work and didnt have time to taste it), wiped it off the best I could with my work out T-shirt and forgot about it. A coupe of days later, the remnants of the substance that I hadn't gotten off had dried and looked like some sap had dried on the hood. No big deal, right? So this weekend I washed my car, got out my Tar/bug remover and polished the unknown substance off. So here the kicker. The paint underneath is completely cracking. About the size of a dime in 3 spots. I can see bare metal in one spot about 1mmx1mm. Has anyone ever heard of this? Acid rain? Bird crap from a diseased sea gull? Tree sap? Can I get these areas repainted under warranty (the cars an 08 about 6 months old)? Please offer me any advice/opinion.
Thanks
Mark

RE: Paint Damage Question
To clarify, the cracked paint areas are about the size of a dime, and seem to be spidering out (ie the worst area is in the middle and small cracks protruding out radially).

RE: Paint Damage Question
Sorry to hear. I had someting simular happen to the truck I had a few years ago. Never figured it out though. It almost seems as it had to hit the hood with some force to cause it to crack that way. Could be a good excuse to get an aftermarket hood []
