i am running an ozark superstart. got it at o'reilys...i originally bought an optima for almost 170 bucks but i had issues with the terminal cables being too short. this one has almost the same credentials as the optima but less money. i have had no problems at all with it.

Most lead acid batteries are made by one manufacturer, Exide.
They are then labeled for sale by the respective retail sellers.
So the only good battery I know of that is better than the OEM
Motorcraft battery is the red top optima.

My experience with batteries (including in the electric power industry) is that you can get totally different reliability out of batteries manufactured side-by-side... same production line, materials, etc..

I'm not sold on the bang-for-the-buck of the Optima.

Personally, I'd probably go to Sears and get a Diehard. Isn't NTB also aSears distributor for the Diehard? Heck, it's not rocket science. I've had good luck with all my starting batteries mainly because I don't drive a lot of short trips so the battery doesn't stay partially discharged for long.

Not true. I worked for Exide for 12 years. Exide makes quite a few, but not even close to "most". Die Hard is made by Johnson Controls, a very good battery although the quality may have slipped some as most now made in Mexico. Interstate is not made by Exide, another great battery. Even the Delco batteries are great quality.
