Default AVIC D3 ant under decklid??

I am installing a D3 tomorrow and I am wondering ifI slap the GPS antenna on the underside of the decklid if it will get a good enough signal.
Has anyone tried this?

I have my GPS antenna stuck on a metal bar underneath the dash and I always have 3 bars on the connection screen, now my Sirius antenna is a different story....That antenna has to have a clear shot at the sky or I get zero reception. Do a search here and check avic411.com, there is alot of good info for installing and troubleshooting problems.

Put it under the dash as stated above. It must be mounted ON metal ... but there can not be metal between it and the sky. Plastic and Glass are OK .. but no Metal. I have mine on the metal bar inside the dash with no problems.

Youll see the metal bar once you take your stock radio out. I mounted mine there and have perfect reception.

Thanks guys.
Just one more question, what did you do about the reverse signal and speed signal?
Do you really need to run the reverse all the way to the rear tail light?

I suggest you visit AVIC411. You are going to want to bypass the Parking Brake Lock so you can watch videos or adjust your Route and Maps. There are several highly detailed threads on this board and other Mustangs boards on installing the D3 and hooking up the VSS wire as well as the Illumination wire. You are also going to need an antenna adapter in your 2007 ...

No, just tie it high like you are in reverse all the time.
The head unit will not know the difference. Not sure
what the speed signal is for. What do the instructions say?

what do you mean tie it high, ground it or tie it a 12v constant hot?
Not really sure what the speed sensor is for but it is not necessary so I can leave that off.

I already have the wiring harness wired for bypass and I am trying to get the dash apart now.
I once had a Crutchfield PDF that showed out the get the AC, hazard, etc cables loose but now I can't find it.
This job has turned into a royal PITA!!
