The reverse is only needed if you install the reverse view camera ... it is used to turned the camera on. The unit can use the Vehicle speed sensor for more accurate location detection and route timing. Also .. some of the vehicle dynamic displays will not work if the VSS is not connected. When I installed mine I pre-ran the VSS wire up to the ECM and the Illumination over to the headlight switch. I preassembled the wiring harness on my kitchen table. The head unit install only took 20 minutes after that ...

 

Ok so I do not need the reverse signal.
I thought I read that the unit needed the reverse signal.

From what I am seeing I need to run a wire to the engine compartment for the VSS.
Is VSS really needed or will the GPS operate just fine without it?

Some folks have installed without it and the GPS still works ... I hooked mine up since I am sure Pioneer put the function on there for a reason and it only takes an extra 10 minutes ...

 

I didn't bother with the speed sensor and the GPS actually does a pretty good job tracking the speed.....

I got the unit in but haven't hooked up the dimmer wire yet.
Stupid Best buy gave me the wrong antenna adaptor so i have to take it all back out anyways.
I will hook everything up right then.

I want to make a copy of my navi disc and save the orginal so I am trying to find out the settings to rip and burn thedisc with DVD Decrypt, anyone have a link?
