compounding
I was thinking of having this done. My car is about a year old and its parked outside either in the sun or under a tree (bird crap) all the time. Will this help preserve the paint? What does it do actually?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I wouldn't compound. You probably want to clay bar the car. I've used the ICE product line which includes the liquid clay bar followed by the ICE wax and have been very happy with the results. The clay bar strips all contaminants including the old wax from the paint surface and it's clearcoat friendly.
Don't compound the car!!! You'll remove your clearcoat, permanently.
You can wax or clay bar the car with any number of products from your Auto Parts store to remove contaiminants from the clearcoat. Then put on a quality Carnuba wax at least once a year. Use Turtle Wax ICE or a good qualitydetailer wax after each wash.

Claybar and a good coat of wax. My best investment so far has been my cover. My car is outside and under trees as well. It is a year old and looks new. You just need to be sure to only cover it when it's clean, so I touch it up quick with a Cali. duster and then ICE detailer before I cover it up.
