i found my way to save on gas!! since i live about 5 minutes away from the border with mexico and gas there is 2.80 a gallon, i cross the border everytime i have to fill up. 2.80 for 87 octane, 3.00 for 91 octane . my car has exactly the same power and a tank gives me the same miles as it did when i filled up over here in the states.

Good post OP. I agree completely. Desperate times call for drastic measures.

Plus, I'm going to be looking into the new Ford Fiesta as well. That car could be pretty fun.

I drive 420 miles one way about twice/month. If I drive at the PSL, it takes me an extra 1 hour that one way (7 hours instead of 6). I'd rather pay the extra$6 for the 1.59 gallons difference for me driving 75 MPH (at 22 MPG) instead of 65 MPH (at 24 MPG) than spend the extra hour on the road.

MY DD is a '94 Accord, so I'm not too worried. (gets 30 mpg, commute is 70 miles round trip every day)

The Mustang is a toy! I pay to play, even if its 4 bucks a gallon or more. Filled up yesterday, Shell V-Power 93, $58 bucks!

Also, doing the speed limit is not easy on the NJ Turnpike. I'll do 80 MPH in the middle lane, everyone is going around me left, and right lanes, I feel like I'm standing still!

If I could only have one car, and it would be a DD,for my needs, I would not have bought the Mustang, its that simple.

DD is a 90 Civic. 26mpg in town. I'm not hurting to bad. The mustang comes out for cruises on the weekend. Probably only put 40-60 miles on it a week.

It really is common sense to save gas. Just drive it easy and don't speed up to the first person to reach the red. Since I tweaked my driving I get really good gas mileage. Actually, out of everyone I get the best gas mileage out of my friends who mostly drive 4x4.

The 7 mile commute to work is just fine for me, it's the 18 miles to my fiance's house that's the killer. I need to expedite this marriage situation...
18 miles is nothing. I have 48 miles to my girlfriends and TWO toll bridges...

I failed to mention that my SUV is my DD but those out-of-town trips I take every 2 weeks is in the Stang for3 reasons:
[ol][*]The Stang gets better gas mileage than my SUV[*]The Stang can knife thru traffic and is more fun to drive[*]#1 abovemakes #2 above that much sweeter[/ol]
Gas is what it is. Even if you could get 2 MPG better on average over the course of a year that would save you about 52 gallons/year for the 15,000 mile/yeardriver or a little better than $200. I can save more than that in 3 months by drinking water instead of soda, making my own coffee instead of Starbucks, packing my own lunch instead of buying at the cafeteria or McD's, etc..

Suck it up folks. We bought these cars to drive. Save those few dollars per week elsewhere, IMO.

34 miles in and 34 miles back. If I do the PSL down the PA Turnpike everyday it takes my almost 90 minutes w/ the amount of traffic between Philly and KOP area. The only good part is getting off work at midnight after and 18 hour day at the station.....NO TRAFFIC. But at the same time everyone knows that buying a V8 is not going to save you gas so if you want to play you have to be ready to pay. If gas prices are really hitting the wallet that hard buy a 4 banger of Ebay and leave the stang for the weekend.

You do realize that mexican gas has more sulfur right? American cars are not designed to run with their higher level of sulfur. It's slowly destroying your engine and will cost you big in the not too distant future. It's cheaper but not a good thing to do. It's not worth it.
