Default ratchet shifter

I'm starting to planreplacing the stock shifter with a ratchet shifter, TCI has a very good looking one.

I really appriciate using an automatic daily...morningsI'm half asleep
holding a cofee or a *** in stop-and-go (its a GT daily drivin90%in metropolitain traffic).
I need the automatic.

Other times I can't stop myself from using the shifter to downshift in traffic and really wish I had a manual aswell. Is that bad for the transmission?

I keep reading over and over about 4.10's, And I wonder when I install the ratchet shifter if I
could benefit from a the higher gear ration?

Can't quite get my head around the whole gear ratio/performance thing.
To my mind raising the gear ration would slow the car down overall.

Well first off, you don't need to tell us about holding your lover. HAHAHA
Second a ratchet shifter is only going to allow you to slap shift throught the gears without the risk of shifting to the wrong gear or hiting Nuetral or reverse. It will not make your car faster, just help you shift better.

Now for the rear gears.... The ratio works a little like this a 3:55 to 1 turns the axle 3.55 times for every 1 tun of the drive shaft roughly. 4:10 will turn 4.1 times. 4:10 to 1 ratio will allow you to accelerate faster but it comes at the cost of reduced top speed, fuel mileage and higher RPM's at normal speeds.

TCI has ANNOUNCED a nice-looking shifter. I'd be eager to hear that the first one has been shipped and installed. Not optimistic; too many "real" availability dates have slud by.
