Default cleaning the maf sensor

i just took out my bbk cai to clean and re-oil it and i remembered always hearing you should clean the MAF sensor after you do this because oil can get on the wires and screw them up. plus, i've always cleaned them in my cars just to keep the car running in top shape. i got my can of crc maf cleaner all ready and took out the sensor and I forgot all about how this new one looked. is there any way to clean this thing? i can't even see the wires in it. maybe someone could be of some help. thanks a lot.

I only clean my MAF if I throw a CEL related to it. They're relatively sensitive and expensive. Although I'm comfortable cleaning them (did it all the time on my SUV due to oil contaminationwhen I was using adrop-in oiled filter), it doesn't take much physical abuse to damage one.

If you must, try spraying it down (w/o physically touching it) with a decent contact cleaner that doesn't leave any residue. A really dirty MAF sensor may require a light scrubbing with a soft bristle brush. I've seen these things damaged too frequently to touch them uneccessarily.

I've had good luck with CRC bradn MAF cleaner. Just spray down the fine wire you see in the MAF and let it dry. I do this on both my cars every spring.
