Most octane boosters and fuel system cleaners are bad for your engine (will foul your plugs) but Chevron's Techron is the only one I've heard is ok to use....might want to wait for more replies because I'm not completely sure.
Just curious - why are you using this? I assume you're going to use it on your 2008? Is this for maintenanceor are you having a problem? If thisis for maintenance, how often should it be used? Thanks...
Yes, ask anyone with a C5 Corvette. Techron works. I know from personal experience.
The older Chevys can develop deposits on the fuel sender caused from high sulfur fuel, it makes the gas gauge go nuts.
Techron is recommended (aka GM fuel system cleaner) by GM and helped regulate the problem for me (doesn't work for everyone, some have senders that have simply failed). Techron really works, in my opinion, the question is, "Do you need it?".
I think I'll probably introduce Techron into the Mustang's fuel system, I just haven't decided the interval just yet. Maybe every 30k miles or every year or two. (The C5 will get it every oil change, but only because of the twitchy fuel sender and $900 bill for a new sender.)
Here's a tip. When you use Techron concentrate, mix it with Chevron gas. It already has Techron in it, so you're getting more bang for you buck.
In addition, you can start using top tier fuel to keep your fuel system clean all the time. The detergent levels in gasoline are not the same for all brands. There is no point in using a quality fuel system cleaner and then consuming gas with inferior detergents.

Pulll the driver side tube and check it and you will see it yourself.
This leads to carbon build-upin the chambers which resultsinless tolerance for ignition advance.
Run either Techron, Gumout-Regane, or Seafoam time to time to clean this out.
Running Top Tier Rated Gasoline (Chevron-Texaco, Shell,BP-Amoco, QT, etc) will help reduce this build up between treatments.
I have been using Shell gas - I'm a believer in staying away from the off-brand names. I saw my local WallyWorld has the Techron fuel system cleaner. (They also had a Shell version - I suppose I should stick with the Techron). We don't have a Chevron station near me. I'll use fuel system donw theroad - I have under 3k miles.
Thanks...
