Default Paint your own black wheels?!

i have the 17 inch grey GT wheels and i was really wanting to paint them a shiny black like the after-market ones. i get the feeling materials and every thing is going to cost either a lot, or surprisingly a little. i was seeing if any one had tried to paint their own wheels or not. i also looked into the duplicolor enamel kit but i dont think it has enough shine or clear coat or what on it. i really want a professional job. and if i can just get some help figuring out the materials i have a painter that can do it for me.

Any help would be appreciated!

I bought high gloss black spray paint from lowes, dont remember the brand. Also bought the same brand of paint in a high gloss clear coat. I took the wheels off, taped them up, left the lip polished. Then i took some fine grit sand paperand sanded them down a little bit, hit them with somesimple green and cleaned them very very very verywell. Sprayed them with 3-4 light coats of black followed by 3 coats of clear. Let dry, reinstall. Thats the kwik version

painting rims seems to be the big thing of the week here right now , thanks for the breakdown , I have GT rims on my car now but I do have 2 Stock V6 rims outside my house I might try this tommorow and see how it works cause I have the simply green I bought to get some stuff off my car .... but my mom has been using it to clean the kitchen [:@] its half gone already

HAHA, I went ahead and painted mine since i was going to buy aftermarket wheels which i still have never bought. I believe it was 3 cans of each kind of paint. It was not duplicolor. I went to all the parts stores and no one had the duplicolor wheel paint in black. I used a high gloss industrial lacquer of some sort from Lowes. Its held up fairly well considering the winter here up north and the semi black topped slash gravel road my parents live on.

yeah, i used painters tape, the narrower the better for taping off the lip. then you can use some wider tape and tape newspaper over the tires.
