I know 255/50 isn't much smaller diameter than the stock pirellis but I just can't bring myself to go any smaller at all. They are already borderline as it is IMO. A little bigger would be better but that's the issue. Good luck finding anything 255+ that is 27.2-27.8" in diameter. Which is about what I'd like.

Wider but not as tall from top to bottom. The overall size of the wheel is smaller.

They are wider, but they may be a shorter diameter tire (I didn't check it, but suggest that you do). For rear tires, I mounted a pair of 275/50R17 Nitto NT450 on the stock 17x8" Bullitts. They fill the wheelwell at 28" dia, and look better than the 235's. The tire is a harder compound, so wet weather traction isn't the best. Selection in this size is limited, so I may try out the Falken tire next time around. Here's a picture:

That's the crap part about the 275/50. It's the perfect size if you are staying at or near stock on the front. But the only thing out there is the 450, which a lot of people seem to not like much, and a non performance Falken.

You can get M&H racemasters but then you're running drags on the street and wearing out $200 tires quickly.

We need a 555 in 275/50/R17.

For what is worth

255/50/17 = 27.1" Diameter
235/55/17 = 27.2" Diameter

you can vary .1" in tire pressure so i would consider 255/50 a stock size tire

The 'P' in P235/45/17 stands for P-metric. It bascially means its a US sized tire as opposed to a European sized tire. Its not something we need to worry about. Generally what you want to do is fit the widest tire you can on your rims that is ~27 inch in diameter. These cars have come with different rim options so...I dont know which rims you have but Im assuming they are 17X8 (the most common size). The stock Pirelli tire for this rim is 235/55/17 with a diameter of ~27.2 inch. You could get the 255/50/ZR17 Nitto 555s and they would work just fine. Discounttire.com

The 555s have a large following. Personally I have not tried them but a lot of guys have and swear by them. Note that they are a summer oriented tire, since you are from Ontario they are probably not a good choice unless you do not drive the car in winter or they are going on a 2nd set of rims (in which case I would get 18' rims)
not to try to burst your bubble, but the "P" actually stands for passenger, as in this tire will fit most passenger vehicles, meaning that IT IS NOT A HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRE
Your not bursting my bubble, take it up with Tire Rack: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46
Note that the Nitto555 comes in 'P' sizes...so according to your statement its not a high performance tire. I think some guys would beg to differ with you.

Still not wide enough to solve the "problem" of the rears though. Would be nice to find something in 275mm that were near stock diameter.

28 Hopup, do you have any closer pictures of the tire? And one from the back of your car looking at the tires so i can see how much wider they are and look? I really appreciate it, thanks.
