I just cringe when I see people jacking cars up by the pumpkin! [:@] I jack one side up at a time and slide a jack stand under the axle where shown in the manual. If I need to go higher, I just repeat the process until I have it where I want it.

Here is a little experiment... Hold both of your arms out and have someoneplace a couple of ten pound plates in each hand and tell me what happens. lol

Yes, I have seen that. Even the mechanically skilled weekend mechanic may not know all the things you need to know if you are in the trade and have taken the courses and apprenticeship, etc.
That is why the owners manual that no one seems to read is a very important tool.

i have read the manual and read warnings about it. I also make sure that there is nothing touching the rear cover when i jack it up. I also have the new FRPP cover and it sits quite different and higher up. There is no way my jack would ever touch that thing

So cast iron bends? I thought it would crack? Many lift their cars with the pumpkin and have never had a problem.

If my arms were made out of steel and iron I would hold several hundred pounds with each. But seriously I understand your point and that it is not advised to use that point as a means of lifting the rear of the car. I remember a guy on here that made a "lift" with a 2x4 and some blocks of wood (one block on each side of the pumpkin on the axel) just taller than the pumpkin itself (very small height difference) and it helps disperse the weight off the pumpkin and thru the whole axel itself. Made sense and you still lift the car from the middle of the pumpkin using jackstands after you have the height you want. I do the same thing (no problems or worries).....

I just posted on the other thread about this differential bending BS.
They are way thougher than the weight of your car, nuff said.

The theory doesn't always reflect the reality.
This is the case here.

When i went to go pick up my car for the gears, the guy said my housing was bent. I hit a curb a while ago, but was never told this.

He said it looked pretty bad, because he was just walking by and saw it. Anyone know how much this should cost to get replaced? He said about $1,000. Im pretty bummed.
Its damage to the cover that Ford wants to avoid.
Run as fast as you can from 'Mr.1K will fix it' if it is just a bent cover..
The axle tubes are just pressed in to the pumpkin and affixed with a single weld point.
Why test the strength of the axle tubeto pumpkin joints when its
not that hard to just do one side at a time. Like Hmat says, cast cracks.
Unless you are in a NASCAR situation and are actually that pressed for time.
Slow down and take your time. Less accident happen that way.
Just stay away from the diff cover with the floor jack platten and all will be fine.
