Do it yourself trunk release?
I saw this on another forum and wondered if anyone has tried it.

I found it on allfordmustangs.com.
Thoughts?

RE: Do it yourself trunk release?
I just don't understand how this wire is telling the trunk to release when there is no such wire to the trunk in the first place?
Maybe I'm stupid but could someone chime in on this?

RE: Do it yourself trunk release?
I've done it. A couple of notes though.
1. The switch in the write-up is too big/tall/high..as he mentions. When you close the glovebox a little hard
the trunk release button gets pushed.
solution: Radio Shack has at least 4 to choose from. I boughta round button (same color scheme)
it's low profile.Of course make sure it's a momentary switch.
2. Pay close attention to step 1 when you drill the hole. There's a metal bar behind the plastic.
Another thing...It might not be a bad idea tocover the entire area with tape as to minimize
scratching the plastic duringthe entire process and especially during drilling.
3. When pulling the white wire with pink stripe....well, I found that wire in 2 locations behind the kick panel.
So, if the 1st one doesn't work...look in the other harness.

to test it...just scrape some insulation off and touch it to ground...you'll hear a click.

RE: Do it yourself trunk release?
Yeah, no problem. The car has an electric trunk release. When you press the button on your remote it sends a signal to the computer that sends an electrical impulse down a wire and causes the trunk release latch to activate. This signal basically cuases a short to ground on the wire that goes to this electrical latch.
The button works in the same way. The switch has two wires. One goes to ground and the other goes to the wire on the trunk release. When you press the button, it grounds the wire that goes to the trunk and this causes the latch to release.
When doing this mod, be careful not to cut any wires. You simply want to strip the insulation back on the wire to expose the copper wires. For best results, I would get a trunk release button from an SN95 mustang. You can get one on ebay or a junk yard for about $5.
Just follow the instructions and you'll be OK. If you have any questions just ask.
