Default little help w/ the plugs please

I decided about a week a go to change the plugs. I'm avoiding the stealership like the plague since they quoted my $560 to do it. I'm a Paramedic in the city so my free time is precious and pretty limited. I finally managed a day off on Friday and REALLY want to get this done. I was looking at the set up and can't figure out how to expose the plugs. How do I get the plug wires off? I've been looking at endless post on changing the plugs but can't find any thing that explains how to do it in detail. I'm not too worried about screwing anything up, just take my time and presto. I just need a little direction on how to start by exposing the plugs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The coils are actually mounted on top of the plugs, you'll need to unplug the wiring harness on each coil, remove the bolt holding the coils on, then pull off the coil & boot combo, that will give you access to the actual spark plug.

Here's a pic showing the coil packs mounted. The attaching bolts I've marked w/arrow. The bolts are 8mm.
I case you weren't aware, the spark plugs on these 3V motors are 9/16", not 5/8 or 13/16 like older cars.

Make sure you get a correct 9/16" "spark plug socket", that way you won't break the insulators when removing and replacing the plugs. AutoZone carries the correct socket andit's less than$5.00.

also its a 10mm for the bolt holding down the Coil and when you take them off pull and twist the rubber boot not the coil itself due to you can destroy the boot if you pull to hard and stretch out the spring in side, also make sure your car sat over night so the block is cold so you dont strip the threads and use never seize when you put the new plugs in. took me about an hour and i was going slow. good luck.

You'll do fine, just take your time and don't rush. Changing out plugs is one of the most basic and easiest things you can do on a car, not much mechanical ability really needed. Actually, the plugs on these 4.6 SOHC engines is 10X easier than on my 67 Mustang 390 GT. Those are a big pain and takethree timesas long to do.

Just use the correct 9/16" spark plug socketwith extension (you won't break any plugs that way), spray some Deep Creep or PB Blaster and let it soak, don't force them (let the solvent work),use a very light coat of nickle anti-sieze (don't get any on the electrodeand keep it off the threads) and make sure the engine is cool (room temperature).

Once you're done you'll be an expert!

I've got everything set up and ready to go. Champion one piece plugs, Nickle-anti seize and some PB Blaster. If I wasn't at work it would be done already. I have to wait till Friday morning to start. I'm just starting to get into the mechanical aspect of my car so I'm like a kid at Christmas. I can't wait to see how much better she drives after a fresh set of plugs. Thanks for all the help, very much appreciated. I'll let you guys know how it went tomorrow.

fyi the bolts holding down the cops is a 7 mm, not a 10, or maybe an 8, but definitely not a 10, at least not on an 07
