THE "HEAT SHIELD" ON THE UNDERSIDE OF MY STOCK HOOD... IS THIS NECESSARY? HAS ANYONE TAKEN IT OFF AND HAD PROBLEMS? ALL RESPONSES ARE APPRECIATED

by heatsheild are you referring to the cloth like materail hooked to the underside? Correct me if i'm wrong but that serves another purpose. In the event of a fire the plastic tabs melt and it falls onto the engine to smother the fire. Its a fire deterrent

It is to smother an engine fire.

 

Its to make hoodscoop installation a pain in the @ss.
If you remove it, it can cause your CAI, if installed,
to not seal up against the hood kinda defeating the
purpose of a CAI.

 

Whipple actually recommends that you remove it. I've had mine off for two years with no problems.

 

does it help to preserve the top side paint?

 

Not really, unless you have real excessive heat under there...
In witch case, the hood wouldn't be my primary concern[8D].

 

i head somewhere that people were having trouble keep good paint on the steeda hoods because of them not having a liner underneath, don't remember which site i saw that on. i've been wanting a 2" cowl hood for a long time, been spending money mostly on performance mods right now.
