Default driveshaft install

in the process of it right now.

i am trying to get the 4 "12mm" bolts off the front of the drive shaft where it connects to the transmission. first off, there aint no way this is 12mm...i have used my 12mm socket from 8 different tool sets and all are too small and the 13mm are a little too big. the only thing i can find that will fit is my rachet wrench and it is too weak, apparently as am i[&o], to get it to turn with that little pos.

is my only option here to go out and buy an air compressor and air rachet??? notlike i can crap money but i really want my drive shaft on today

can somebody help who has performed this task before???

I had to 'tighten up' my front driveshaft attachment hardware.
I used a common 12 point socket and a long rachet handle.
Be sure and index the flanges for proper re-installation.
You want the front and rear flanges to be in the same orientation
as when the OEM driveshaft was installed.

+1 it is 12mm...it needs to be a twelve point socket.

he may not be able to index the flanges if he's changing the rear flange out, depending on which driveshaft he's instaling

Take a box end 12 mm wrench. Put the box end on the bolt head andHit it with a hammer to shock the bolt loose along with breaking the loctite that was installed. You can try and double wrench it but it will bend the wrench. Just wack it with a hammer in the direction it turns loose and they will break free.

Are you using a lift or did you jack the back of the car by the axle carrier (pumpkin) ?
If so, you're a bad boy. You just bent that axle I'm told.[8D]

Sorry, I'm having a little fun from another thread...

Once you have a correct wrench in place, you can use a jack handle for leverage and you won't need to apply a lot of force to get those bolts loose.
Just slip one end of the handle around the wrench and go.
If you're doing this on the floor with jack stands under the car, then you might not have enough room to fit a long handle.
Try to find a 2 foot long piece of tube .

Oooops! Sorry, I came in late[8D].

can i borrow it?

i got mine loose with a 3/8 ratchet and about a six inch extension. that allowed me to get the socket on there pretty square.

are you changing the pinion flange too?
