I have a fealing the Hood Shake is going to become an Issue causing a recall.

However, the dynamics are pretty simple. The mustang has a HUGE Front Airflow Intake area, which allows more air to enter the engine compartment, then can exit. The faster you go, the higher the air pressure builds up inside the engine compartment.

Next… to save weight, the hood is light and flimsy. Once enough air pressure builds up, the air attempts to exit via the crack around the hood… Eventually something has to give! So then your hood flops about or pops open.

Resolution – restrict the incoming airflow… or increase the ability for the air to exit.

In my case, I’m installing exit vents at the back of the hood to run for the time being, until I find the “perfect” hood… – Her is an example, except I’m having a body shop build mine custom.

Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33646
(Those grills mounted at the rear left and right of the hood!)

There is a guy in here starting a company with an awesome hood, which will be for sale soon. It is a very good solution as well as an awesome look.

Man...wouldn't it suck for them to have a recall and the fix be for them to relocate the windshield washer nozzles and replace the hood with a factory cowl hood. I would be so BUMMED!!

I haven't changed the tires yet... still stock tires/wheels. But, when I do, I'll go to at least a 275 on 9" wide wheels.
don_w good choice on size. My Roush came with the 275's and I think they look great. The back end of the car really looks broad with them on.

The lifting of hoods seems like it is a design issue. There is a lip where most cars don't have this at all. Makes sense only to see this problem at high speeds.

Got some new BFG G-Force t/a kdws 255/50's put on today so I had to try my first hole shot, no wheel hop some spin but it grabbed fairly well, I was having so much fun listening to that motor go thru the gears I couldn't stop, looked at the speedo 120 mph it sure seemed like a short time. H owever the hood popped up, but the safety latch held, I heard of others having this happen , anybody figure out what is causing it. I can't wait to get my mod's done cai and a tune to start with. This thing hauls *** now. For everybody waiting for thiers it's worth it, this car is awsome to look at and drive.
When I took mine up to 135, the hood was jumping a lot. It was on the sides, about half way between the front edge and the windshield. I read in the car magazine that has the 07 Shelby prototype on it, that the vents in that hood of the Shelby design, are to release underhood pressure, not as intake vents.

I did the 135 mph, but since I don't plan on hood pins anytime soon, I will keep it under 100mph, well try anyway !! LOL

flyingt... do you have any good pics of the tires/wheels on your Roush? I like to see them.

I read that too... I also read that the production car will not have the same hood. The article said the "vents" will stick up above the hood, and be nonfunctional. But, we'll have to see what actually rolls out late next year.

CONTINUING OFF TOPIC: RE HOOD LIFT. If you vent the hood, you want outflow vents toward the front of the hood (like the proposed Shelby in the car magazines). This is a natural low pressure area as the bow wave of air jumps up at the front of the car. The base of the windshield area is a HIGH PRESSURE area where the air piles up before climbing the windshield. NASCAR and drag racers put their intakes at the windshield base for that very reason.

Sunday I was driving on the freeway and the hood popped up. I have noticed the hood shake very slighltly but was not concerned until that happened.
Is there anything being done about this? Hood pins will not fix this!
For some reason I think the hood should stay down on a $30,000 car.
