Best Mods for $300 to increase HP and Gas Mileage
Ive been thinking about getting a aftermarket cold air kit or axel back exhaust. Ive hear with both options that my MPG will increase as well as a slight HP increase. Im not overly concerned with HP right now cauz i dont have the money to really make my car fast, and well i want to wait and do that part right. SOO my question is what is the best systems that i can ge that are going to be highest of quality and help me out?
Thanks!

RE: Best Mods for $300 to increase HP and Gas Mileage
I just can't believe anyone who claims they received a MPG increase.. maybe 1 mpg at best? and I'm guessing that is because the tune isn't as rich as the factory tune. so 16 more miles per tank is about 1 extra gallon, at $4 it will only take you about 80 gallons to justify the purchase.. assuming you do get an increase, my mileage stayed the same.
and my intake/tune cost more than $300..
letsee.. you could try doing some different gearing depending on the type of driving you do.. and install it yourself.. I can't think of anything for $300 that might give you a chance of better MPG.. sorry.. better save for a rainy day because your probably better off saving for gas money if you can't get the intake/tune.

I saw about a 1/2 mpg gain with underdrive pullies. $179
CAI and tune will cost you more than $300 and didn't do much of anything mileage-wise, at least with the 87 octane tune. The 93 octane tune gets about 1 mpg better at the cost of premium fuel, so you don't really gain anything there.
Aluminum driveshaft got me 1-1/2 mpg, but costs a lot more than $300.
Off road x-pipe also netted about 1-1/2 mpg, you could get one for under $300.

[ul][*]CAI alone will gain you about 3-5 RWHP with no fuel mileage gain. ~$250[*]CAI & tune will gain you about 15-25 RWHP (30 is possible) with little to no fuel mileage increase. ~$600[*]Axle backs will gain you NO RWHP and NO fuel mileage increase. ~$300-500[/ul]
There are no mods that will provide any significant fuel mileage gains other than the "bicycle mod".
I always wonder why someone spends $25k-$30k for their vehicle, then hundreds or thousands in mods and THEN wants to save $5-$10/week in gas.

Ialways wonder why people would want to throw away $300-500 a year in gas if they didn't have to.
OP would like to increase HP and Gas mileage. He didn't ask which mods don't increase mileage.

Change gears to 3.31 for better mpg. I see 27-28 everyday in my 75 mile commute. It cuts down on my 0-60 mph time just a fraction, but it is worth it to me.

You can get better mileage for free by just driving slower...
There isn't any modification that you can do that will significantly increase your mileage.
