Default Side Scoops - What 3M Tape To Use?

My painter screwed up when he put on the supplied 3M tape for my side scoops and I had to pull it off. So I need more tape. Cervinis says the product they use is 3M VHB 4941 tape.

Does it matter if I get the exact same tape from an automotive supplier or will any 3M tape designed for attaching automotive exterior accessories suffice?

3M Emblem tape. Auto Zone. Grey with red backing.

What did the painter do to screw up??? Did he position one or both wrong? That's what my painter did. I bought some Cervini's as well (nice choice). I think they look the best; especially since they don't come withthe cheap looking solid plastic "vent"piece.

Anyway, I was just going to pick them up and put them on myself, however when I pulled into the shop the guy recognized my car and just waved me into the garage. It was a nice gesture. He was like, "I'll put 'em on for ya man, just take me a minute." I was thinking, well maybe he'll do a good job.

Sure enough though, the driver-side scoop looks perfect. It's about an 1/8 back from the edge both top and bottom. However thepassenger-side scoop is about 1/8 back from the bottom edge and just a hairOVER the edge at the top [:@]. I mean, you can't really notice it unless you look for it.But it's drivingme crazy. That's exactly why I was going to do it myself.

Let me know how your fix goes.Good luck...

The scoops are not attached. My issue was the painter put the tape right up to the outside edge on the scoops when it is supposed to be set back about 1/8 inch.

For those of you who used adhesion promoter, did you put it on the tape or the car before attaching the scoops?
