Which synthetic should I use?

Which synthetic should I use?
I've been trying to figure this out for the last few days. I'm really leaning towards Royal Purple. Any other thoughts/ideas? Also, for the guys who run synthetic, what oil filters do you use?

If your oil change frequency will be up to 7,000 miles, then ANY of the leading brands of synthetic are fine. If you want to go beyond 7,000 miles then Amsoil and Mobil1 Extended are good choices and I'm sure there are others.
I'm using the Amsoil ASM 0W20 with the Amsoil filter and doing my changes at 10,000 miles.

Oh boy, here we go again. You're going to get recommendations on everything from A-Z. Most people seem to use the Ford Motorcraft filter and a 5w-20 full synthetic like Mobil 1 (what I use), Royal Purple, Amsoil, Castrol, or any othe rof the name brands.

RE: Which synthetic should I use?
i do not drive a mustang. but i have been running mobil 1 full synthetic since i bought my 04 new with 13 miles on it. 5w30. i recently changed the viscosity to 10w40 full synthetic, and the engine has quitened down alot. i am not for sure what the mustangs come out with from factory as of oil. but i can definately tell you royal purple is very good oil. i just cannot see me putting it in for the money difference. as the mobil 1 syn. has been doing a very good job for 72000 miles and i have been doing the 5000 mile oil and filter interval since i bought it. and my 04 5.7 still does not use or leak or burn any oil. but good luck with your choice....

5-7 for synthetic is about right. I use redline and it recommends change the filter at like 5-7 and change the oil at like 10-12 cant remember exactly. I change mine every 4-5k regardless because I abuse my car. amsoil, royal purple, redline, mobil 1, etc etc. I still prefer redline but thats just me. You pay more for the oil but you change it less so it kinda makes up for it.

+1 Amsoil
There was a huge thread last week about weights. Many people saying the 5W-20 recommendation is due to CAFE fuel efficiency standards and that 10W-30 would be better. Lots of discussion back and forth but I don't think anyone ever proved anything.

...So running a synthetic lenghthens the time you have between changes? So synthetic every 3k is a bad idea? More like 5-7k?

The Amsoil ASM is rated at 15,000 miles SEVERE use, 25,000 miles normal use. Plus the Amsoil filter is also rated 15,000 (or was that 25,000?).
But it's mainly what you're comfortable with, given the facts and how you interpret them. I've used Mobil1 at 10,000 mile oil/filter changes and traded or sold cars with over 200,000 miles on them that ran great and used minimal to no oil at the time I got rid of them.
