I have the Stant cap. It works fine, but the unlock process is a PITA sometimes. Still, with gas so expensive, any deterrent is a good one IMO. It increases your chances a thief will just find an easier target.

Two things:

The plastic locking gas cap can be defeated with a drywall screw and a cordless screwdriver in a couple of seconds (just drive the screw through the top free-spinning cap into the bottom half, and voila! They're locked together allowing you to unscrew the cap).

I looked in my rear driver's fenderwell the other day, and could see the filler neck plain as day...I figure why make it harder for them to steal the gas (and do more subsequent damage)...There are bigger fish to fry.

Aloha!

Yeah I actually got mine moreso to prevent anyone from putting anything foreign into the tank. Even a little kid could wander by and decide to put something in there being a tard. I don't really leave my car anywhere for long, so its not a huge concern. With gas at $4 its just an added bonus to lock it up. Chances are someone looking to steal gas will want to get it done as quickly as possible. If they can't gain immediate access to yours, there is a pretty good chance they'll just find another target. If not, oh well, there is nothing you can do that is 100%. Its all about being a deterrent.
