It does a couple of things. First, it replaces the heavy stock radiator support so you save some weight off the front end. Without the front sway bar, the front end come up a little higher on launch which allows for better weight transfer and better traction.

I have an MGW shifter and I've driven the car HARD on numerous occassions (street - highway on-ramps, etc), and have not experienced the issue you are referring to. If it's been doing it since the beginning then I'd say it's either installer error or a bad unit (my first guess would be the former - nothing personal, but I just can't see George producign a bad unit)..

Let us know what you find, and best of luck getting it resolved!!

I just read something about replacing the factory tranny fluid with Dexron III and putting less fluid in it. I might try that as well.

Might have a second gear syncro going out. Otherwise, check the your torque limiters are tight. Try the other set of holes for the torque limiters, too. With the torque limiters and the MGW shifter, you shouldn't be having ANY problems.

I just have the MGW and no limiters or anything.

At WOT I have never had a problem going into 2nd or 3rd, even with the stock shifter.

But from what it sound like something might be binding, if it has been doing it since day one I would say check your install and clearances.

Good Luck.

Just so it's clear, it's done this since I put the TQ limiters and shifter in, I installed them the same day.

I'm really doubting it is a synchro since it didn't do it with the stock shifter and no TQ limiters. I think I'll start by removing the TQ limiters and seeing what that does.

Here's the thing. The MGW has fairly stiff centering springs, which naturally push the shifter toward the center / third gear gate, when pulling the shifter out of first. When I first installed mine, the first couple of shifts I totally missed second, but third gear was a cakewalk....My advice....

Take the shift boot off, and pivot the square bracket below it, so the shift handle pivots more toward the passenger side, basically placing the shift handle at least center of the boot area. From the drivers seat, this pretty much forces you to pull toward yourself when shifting into second, which cures the issue of the centering springs popping the shifter toward the third gear gate.....It worked for me.....

give it a go, and let us know if it helps.....
