Default RE: Gears 3.73 vs 4.10

I loves me my 4.10's.
I had the (at the time) stock 3.55's, so moving 3 gear sizes was most definitely noticable.
I wouldn't consider moving one size, just not that noticable a difference.
If you have 3.31's, then 3.73's will feel great.
But like has been said, don't fear the gear.
1st gear still has it's use, whether it's the casual start, or the quick spin before 2nd.
I have been known to start in 2nd as well, just depends on the situation.
But I'll tell you,I used to be able to spin my tires a bit.
NowI can roast them to the rim if I want to.

Did I mention thatI love my 4.10's?

If I need to accelerate between 70 and 90, I shift to 3rd.

Is there really anything that gears do other than give you a quicker launch? While at speed, can't I just downshift? I'm not making fun of the ones who have gears. I'm just trying to figure out why I can't get the same effect just by driving in one gear lower.

Correct I have never seen or read that changing the rear would cause motor failure but it can cause the tires to wear much faster and possibly damage the differential with repeated abuse and cause premature wear on the rear suspension components.....just get the 3.73 and and have fun

I like my 3.73s, its a good all around gear, and your gonna notice the difference changing from the 3.31 that you have now. I know i sure as hell did!
so Sixxers have 3.31 and GTs have 3.55 ?

And really how much can I shorten my engine's life by flooring it occasionally anyways I mean isnt that was its built for I always thought not maintaining your engine (oil) or running lean / rich and stuff like that is what killed the engine life. Not doing burnouts in the parking lot every friday [&:]

YEa 4.10s rock. I wasnt sure about them and the current owners talked me into them. The highway revs arent bad. If you dont like it drive 5 slower.

Even at 1/4 throttle the car accelerates like a bat outta hell!!!

There will be a big difference when you down shift to 3rd accelerating from 70 to 90 between 3.31s and 3.73s and an even bigger difference with the 4.10s.

exactly.....5th gear becomes alot better too....it actually has some good pull at cruising speeds and doesnt require a downshift if you are casually passing someone. new gears bring the overall drivability of the car up a couple notches if all gears.

Seat of the pantsexperience is second to none, first gearflies by what's the point? Trust me you wont regret it I don't. You will have a significantly different car for the better. BTW - my S197 GT Auto is black too.
